Vandalism at Shri Bhagavad Gita Park in Brampton City is denied by Canadian authorities.

Patrick Brown, the mayor of Brampton, clarified the situation on Twitter on Sunday evening.
Hours after India denounced the incident and urged the local administration to act quickly, Canadian authorities have denied any vandalism at a recently opened park named “Shri Bhagavad Gita” in Brampton city and have stated that the alleged blank sign was left during the repair work.

On September 28, the park, formerly known as Troyers Park, received its new name and was dedicated.
“We denounce the hate crime that occurred at Brampton’s Shri Bhagavad Gita Park. The Indian High Commission in Canada tweeted on Sunday, “We implore Canadian authorities and @PeelPolice to look into the incident and take swift action against the offenders.

The Canadian province of Ontario contains the city of Brampton.

“As a result of yesterday’s reports of damage at the freshly opened Shri Bhagavad Gita Park, we moved quickly to extend our investigation. According to what we’ve learnt, the allegedly empty sign was put up by the builder as a temporary measure until the actual Shri Bhagavad Gita Park sign could be installed tomorrow, Brown tweeted.

Brown stated, “We are glad to learn of this conclusion,” and thanked the Indian community for bringing the matter to their attention. We appreciate the neighborhood for alerting us about this and helping to make Brampton a welcoming and safe place to live. “During repairs, the empty sign was left in place. We never take down a sign unless it is broken or its name changes, so this is not a typical procedure, he added in another tweet.

The permanent sign and any other park structures showed no signs of vandalism, according to Peel Regional Police. Peel Police tweeted that the “permanent sign is currently awaiting the writing to be put and it was a temporary park sign used in the park naming ceremony.”

Indian nationals living in Canada were warned last month due to a “sharp spike in cases of hate crime, sectarian violence, and anti-India actions.”

The warning stated: “Indian nationals and students from India studying in Canada, as well as those traveling to or enrolling in school in Canada, are cautioned to exercise appropriate caution and remain watchful.” BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, a well-known Hindu temple, was vandalized on September 15 by “Canadian Khalistani radicals” with anti-India graffiti in what appears to have been a hate crime.
